Cartel proposal
The cartel is one of the School’s basic organs and a device of formation for the participants who decide to work together on a common question. Anyone – newcomers, beginner analysts, experienced analysts – can form a cartel, since a cartelisand is simply someone with a desire to work on a question or subject of interest. The effects of this experience are palpable for those who undertake it, and it often leads to a singular production, a writing to be transmitted to the community that is the School.
The formation of a cartel is driven by the desire for work of each one but it is also a privileged instrument of promoting transference of work within the Society, the NLS and the schools of the WAP. Cartels preferably function in person although online cartels are becoming common as well.
Whichever mode of formation is chosen, if you are interested in finding others with whom to form a cartel, please send us your area or subject of interest by filling the form below.
Call for Super-Flash Cartels on Jacques-Alain Miller’s Analysis Laid Bare
In three short lectures, Jacques-Alain Miller’s rich and incredibly lucid text, Analysis Laid Bare, leads us through several answers from different phases of Lacan’s teaching to the following question: “what is the bone of an analysis?”. This bone refers both to the obstacle that sets one on the path of an analysis, and to the product of the analytical “reduction-operation”1 at its end, as testified to in the pass. Miller teaches us that mechanisms of “repetition”, “convergence”, and “avoidance”2 can lay bare this bone, but also move an analysis beyond the limits of signifying articulation and the framework of the fundamental fantasy, to broach the symptom as a jouissance of the parlêtre’s body. Throughout, he emphasises the conceptions of the pass that stem from these different framings of the bone of an analysis: from crossing the imaginary plane to dropping phallic identifications; and from traversing the fantasy to identifying with the symptom, or making it one’s jouissance partner. Over these three short lectures, we witness the full clinical and theoretical importance of the orientation that Miller’s reading of Lacan has provided us with.
Because this text repays close attention, the London Society of the New Lacanian School invites you to join us in the formation of super-flash cartels towards a cartel event devoted to Analysis Laid Bare which will open our 2024-25 programme this October. This will be held both in-person and via Zoom so expressions of interest from anywhere in our very international working community are very welcome.
If you would like to join a flash-cartel to work with others on Miller’s Analysis Laid Bare, and perhaps submit products as potential presentations for the October cartel event, please get in touch with us by emailing [email protected] or by registering your interest using our cartel proposal form here. We will aim to connect you, as soon possible, with other participants who are also seeking to form cartels on this crucial text.
We look forward to hearing from you!

CALL for Cartels towards the NLS Congress 2025
In her presentation of the theme of work for the coming year, Patricia Bosquin-Caroz announced that the 2025 NLS Congress will be on the theme of Painful Loves.
As her brief but panoramic talk demonstrated, this is a topic as old as human culture. Poets, novelists, painters, and philosophers have always testified to the pangs of yearning and love-sickness enjoyed/endured by the one in love; not only when their love is unrequited (as raised to an art by Courtly love) but also when it is supposedly ‘consummated’ between lovers.
Yet, ‘Painful loves’ is also a completely contemporary topic, since, the democratic right to jouissance promoted by capitalism and science’s collaboration with the market has led to novel modalities of painful love, as signifiers like ‘polyamory’, ‘thrupple’, ‘revenge porn’, and ‘ghosting’ suggest. As psychoanalysts who hear these signifiers in our consulting rooms, we surely have much to say but also to learn about the exquisite agonies of love today?
The London Society of the New Lacanian School is keen to assist in the formation flash cartels towards the 2025 Congress. If you would like to join a cartel in this very rich and resonant theme, now is the time!
Please get in touch with us by emailing [email protected] or by registering your interest using our cartel proposal form here.
We will aim to connect you, when possible, with other participants who are also seeking to form cartels toward the Congress.
